I'm not sure how the US system differs from the German (and other European ones), but if you're not a prodigy like Maximilian Janisch (Swiss mathematician) the earliest you would probably have a PhD would be when you're approaching 30 or are at least 30. Like a friend of mine who started her bachelor's degree immediately after finishing secondary school will be at least 27 should she manage every step in the least amount of time possible as a person that is not gifted. And the least amount of time is 10 years (3 years for the Bachelor's degree, 2 years for the Master's degree and another 5 years for the PhD).
