I watched Nolan’s The Odyssey first. For some reason, high school nor college never required it to be read.
My best friend has been trying to get me to watch Epix: The Musical for five months now, so I caved. Now I’m obsessed. I think it’s better than the Nolan movie. (Don’t yell)
Now I’m reading the actual poem. Emily Wilson’s translation, I’m also annotating which I haven’t done since high school but since it’s a classic I think it helps. It helped to annotate more difficult books in high school. I’ve seen a lot of discourse about this translation and I was stressing picking which translation to go with but I figured I do want to have a more relaxed time reading, personally.
I skipped the introduction. Read book 1. Loved it. Then went back to actually read the intro. So now I’m on page 37 and taking my notes. I’m enjoying the intro. I like history, so. And yeah I’m entirely aware that this is so out of order that I should’ve started with The Iliad first but… the heart wants what it wants.
Thanks for reading my chaotic first update.

Surprisingly (to me) this was a page-turner. I appreciated how the different POVs were intertwined to tell different aspects of the story and each character's understanding of what makes a family. The pacing was really good and felt cinematic. I was really curious about some of the minor characters and I do wish we got even a short chapter from their perspectives so they felt more three-dimensional.

Rime of the ancient mariner mention! Was I the only sixth/seventh grader that had this as assigned reading? Genuinely curious

I don't know why but I occasionally think about this book, and its one of my fav books and I honestly I only started reading this book to complete a goodreads reading challenge and absolutely loved it. The fact thats its fiction yet so realistic makes it very unique and interesting and idk how to describe it just love this book, I don't really read books like this much so this book rea,,y prompted me to try other genres than fantasy and thriller...
