Personally, I read to escape the real world - I pretty much refuse to read anything too heavy or heartbreaking! I suffer with terrible anxiety and OCD, so reading silly or happy books helps me cope.
Do you guys do the same or do you like books with heavy subjects?

Okay, I'm a huge Romance fan and there was a time when I left that genre for good because of disappointment. Romance didn't feel good, the plot only contained smut without any good story.
But Sarah Adams revived my love for Romance. I read her When in Rome and that book pushed the love for the Romance genre in me again.
So I want to ask what's that one book that made you love [your fav genre] ?

can yall read at your job? i have two jobs. i bartend on saturday nights so obviously im not reading then but i also have a regular 9-5 in the social work field monday-friday. although i have busy days here sometimes there’s just absolutely no need for me to be here 8 hours a day so if my stuff is done… i read. i banged out a ton this week and since its friday i have basically nothing left to do (knock on wood… now that i say that it’ll be chaos 😭) but no seriously im hoping to plow my way through my current book today before i clock out. i even got an ereader so its more discrete (not that anyone would say anything, my stuff stays done but). but yea do yall read at work? if so, what days do you get the chance to read the most at work? fridays are usually pretty laid back for me.
sidebar: why does it feel more socially acceptable to be caught on your phone at work rather than reading? 😭😭

This was discussed on My Wife Likes Books podcast and it’s made me so curious about other people’s because there’s was so varied. Here’s my system:
⭐️ - inherently flawed in style, plot, politics, etc. likely didn’t finish
⭐️⭐️ - I finished it but it was actively difficult and I enjoyable. Glad it’s over.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - enjoyed it while reading but ask me in a month and I’ll remember nothing about it
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - a good book, both in terms of quality and enjoyment. I might recommend it to some people.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - like that crush I had in high school, I find myself looking for excuses to bring it up in conversation. Takes over my life, becomes my personality.

Came for the unhinged plot, staying for the uncanny brilliance of Linda’s voice. The writing here is 10/10
