4.75 stars. just as funny as the rest but, despite Dinniman warning me not to, i was so stumped by the way the floor was laid out the entire time. still enjoyable and i'm excited to see where the story goes from here.

4.75 stars rounded up to 5. this one was just as enjoyable as DCC 1 but i found the middle did slog on a little bit. it didn't get hit by second-book-syndrome as hard as expected, though! i'm excited to see where the story goes from here. also Mordecai in his incubus form?? i need him.

5 stars. this book was so engaging and so extremely funny that i blew through it. donut is my favorite character EASILY but carl is mildly dreamy on his own. will be jumping right into book 2 IMMEDIATELY.

4.5 stars. the magic system in this is so unique and, while a tiny bit confusing, i really enjoyed it. i'm always a sucker for when the MMC has Feelings but blames them entirely on a bond. as always in slow burn books, that first kiss hit like crack cocaine. i'm obsessed with Sylas. the plot felt complete and i really really need book two immediately.

thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the ARC!

4 stars. this book took me 95 years to get through, but it was worth it in the end! tgat was magical. Marietta read very one dimensional and she's hard to relate to, so it took me a while to get into this book (months!) but the premise was too enticing for me to think about dropping it. i've read one other adult retelling of The Nutcracker and that one was a great deal darker than this one was. this was still enjoyable, though!
