So I know TOG is hyped up a lottttt. BUT So far I’m on heir of fire and I’m not completely sold of the characters or story. But I heard the more books you get into the series The better it gets. Is that true? I want to love it. But RIGHT NOW it feels like a chore to read sometimes. Like the books so far have just been a lot of filler without anything actually happening.

this one was really mixed for me! it drew me in straight away with characters that i did love, but didn’t ever build up enough to what i thought it would.
pros - • looove the mmc and the chemistry between both of the main characters, at first when learning the backstory i was unsure if it would be a bit too sibling of a dynamic but it didn’t end up feeling that way • also appreciated the build up of the romance and slower burn, the main relationship felt like it was given its rightful time • the drama, the plot twists. whilst some where definitely very predictable it still had me hooked!
cons - • the two main characters were really the whole story, i didn’t love how everyone else was soo pushed aside and sent off on their own missions before we ever really even heard from them • i didn’t love the fmc’s stubbornness which seemed to an extremer level - even with the history there, the way she acted and judged situations based on her dislike for ‘reapers’ as a whole felt very immature • some things felt too shallow and it made the plot fall flat in more intense scenes. people were too quickly forgiving, the main characters always managed to get away with highly risky situations in ways that felt ridiculously easy

it has been a long while since a book made my heart hurt the way this one did when i was reading the last 1/3rd, whilst still containing some of the most magical pages i have ever read
pros - • the writing!! i disappeared into the world and could see, feel and smell the sparkling snow and light • the slow burn and the yearning killed me • again with the writing, the emotion conveyed through the characters had me actually procrastinating reading because i knew i would be too heartbroken (i was) • overall just so beautiful and magical i can’t say it enough
cons - • i would have liked to see aurora learning the magic be developed as this felt massively skipped over • similarly, there were a few other potholes with the magic and some of the characters that could have been expanded on • whilst the ending was the perfect fairytale for a YA, it was a little anticlimactic and i was just coming to terms with the story ending as a beautiful tale of grief, i would have been happy with it left there
