The best takeaway from this book was the representation of the fmcs extreme acne caused by polycystic ovary syndrome. It showed weād how her traumatic experience with acne changed her behaviour and personality. It made her self conscious, insecure, untrusting. It forced her to guard herself and become reclusive. Now she doubts peopleās intentions and their interest in her. I do find Natalie (fmc) hard to stand. She was immature (18yo) and the writer wrote in tangents that took me out of the story. It followed Natalieās spiralling thoughts and it was sometimes long winded and repetitive. I thought the romance was oddly fast and superficial. It was a bit all over the place. Even though Natalie hyper focused on it, their actual interactions were few and they barely spoke to each other. So the deep feelings they each supposedly had were confusing to me. Only at the very end when the FINALLY speak truth does anything feel real and possible. But it was too little too late by then.

An introduction to Historical Fiction, these books are part of the cultural zeitgeist or the 'canon' that many would recognize. Look for more niche titles in later Starter Pack volumes.
