This is the first time I’ve heard this put into words.

With learning any skill, once you’ve learned how to identify what you need to improve within yourself, it’s hard to stop. And on top of not being able to stop identifying your own weaknesses within an activity, you’re not experienced enough to know how to fix it.

In this book, they’re talking about video games, but I experienced this throughout multiple places in my life. Playing a musical instrument, learning a foreign language, entering the workplace and giving presentations on my work - all while admiring others who have more experience, using them as inspiration to continue learning, while putting myself down for not being able to replicate every detail that I admire so much.
