8/10 🌟
i liked this more than i expected to. the main characters took a while to grow on me and felt rather bland but the plot felt coherent and the cast of characters were utilised well enough.
its a pretty solid book and though I'm not the biggest fan of spirits/elemental magic in fantasy, this book was still well worth it.
my only qualms are that in some places the writing felt a bit stilted and awkward, with some of the dialogue feeling particularly unnatural.
otherwise the fairy tale-ish tone worked very well with this book, the writing style vv charming.
it was a nice time.
