I'll be honest, this isn't what I expected, but I am REALLY enjoying where the story is going. Sci-fi and climate fiction mixed with what might be fantasy, very good so far.

DNF'ed. I really wanted to enjoy this, but oh my, is it ever boring :( the side characters all blended together and Murderbot does not carry the story enough to make it compelling. I just didn't enjoy how we're dropped into the world with zero context, but are still given all these random paragraphs of exposition that feel meaningless. Definitely should have been a fully fleshed out book instead of a set up for a series of novellas.

  • 2025 Reflection

My goal this year was to read more non-fiction and learn more about some topics I'm interested in. I'm usually a hardcore sci-fi and fantasy fan where the story is set in a secondary world and not in an urban setting (limits my options, I know, lol), but I expanded my reading a lot this year! I'm very surprised to say that my only 5 star read of 2025 was Streetfight by Janette Sadik-Khan, a look at how Sadik-Khan changed the streets of New York to make the city more walkable and car-alternative friendly!

What surprised you about your reading this year? Any books that were outside of your comfort zone but were still enjoyable?
