I understood why it is considered great. The story was simple yet addicting, the type in which the reader will be on the edge of their seats most of the time. The constant awareness of Murderbot and its subtle earning for autonomy. As we do currently live in the technologic future, the questions about artificial intelligence and its capacity for emotional connection are always something to ponder on.

Alice Winn's writing style is close to poetic. The symphony of her words briefly touching her characters' feelings and thoughts were hypnotizing, a great reminder of the soldiers' lives and the people they left behind. In Memoriam, the structure was incredibly smart, dividing the dramatic change with The Preshutian newsletter of Roll of Honour: the segment in which it lists the deaths and wounded former students, now soldiers, of Preschute College. Furthermore, letters between the soldiers and their families were a simple addition that strengthened the whole book.

idk what to feel. i started with the attitude of wanting a good-cry-sad story but i guess i feel more anger towards the powerful who play chess with peoples’ lives. the beast of war needs to be fed of boys, and more often than not, they come back entirely different people.

It took a while for The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi to warm up to me. Mainly, the book is set in Indian Ocean, and embraces the culture around that area. Personally, I have the familiarity comparable to a tiny bean when it comes to that geographical part of the world. Fortunately, Chakraborty's writing style balances this out. With great details and information she gives, her words felt like a warm hug: it was easy to digest and felt familiar.

The characters’ quirks and personalities are probably the best part.
