I still have questions, and not the philosophical kind I should be left with; more plot convenience questions which are frustrating. Who was the lady Carmilla was travelling with at the start? Is she also a vampire? If so how in the end are there no more vampire deaths, if not, why is she continually travelling with Carmilla under all her pseudonyms? Why is no effort put into finding Carmilla's travelling companions after her death? If Carmilla has to sleep in her coffin to restore her strength, and her coffin is just down the road from the Schloss, how had Laura never met her before? Surely she would always reside in the area. Where had Carmilla been the last century and why haven't there been over vampire deaths before the last month? Can Carmilla turn others to vampirism? If she can why doesn't she turn everyone in the Schloss so she has a base near her coffin and people who won't kill her? If she can't, why doesn't she try to marry into the family years prior to have a base near her coffin?
The book was easy to read for a classic, but I imagine that's to do with the anti-womens liberation propaganda and Le Fanu making it easily accessible for the masses at the time of original publishing.
I liked the bones of the story, a vampire invading your home, your slow building obsession with her, but unfortunately I didn't like much else.

This is what the Scythedom was incapable of understanding. They were so focussed on the act of killing, they couldn't comprehend what went into the act of dying
In this world where death is no longer natural, processing a gleaning as the family left behind must be so difficult. I like that Citra gives everyone a month to process and make time for each other before their loved ones are taken
