"Power hoarded where it doesn't belong is power borrowed, and I intend to collect on the debt."
Okay... not sure how I feel about this really. I liked it enough to finish it - but it took me way too long. Some parts I did enjoy, but most of the time I felt disconnected with the story the more I progressed with it. Dare I say, I got bored at some point, and I found myself coming back to it reluctantly. I personally think this could've been shorter.
There were.. encounters/fights between our two leads that I found painfully brutal at times, and while I love some serious enemies to lovers trope, somehow it just didn't feel right whenever those appeared. I want them to yearn while apart from each other (yes please), but I was also supposed to have my heart giddy whenever they meet, right? But instead I got scared when they were within each other's reach & started fighting lol - we all needed a moment to chill, guys.
But this was still a good dulogy. I just expected something more, I guess, with that build up from the first book. The ending also got lost on me - seemed a little loose, and there's no other way to say it other than it was... underwhelming.

"One day, I would stand trial before the spirits of my dead. One day, the bodies I never buried would call upon me to answer for my sins."
I liked this one, though I've sometimes experienced being lost and scenes seemed to jump without warning (or was it just me?). I found myself reading back to make sure I undertand what was suddenly happening next. But I'm curious to know how this'll end. Things have picked up and I'm ready for some yearning with these two. So, I'll just drop my favorite lines 'cause on to the second book I go!
