Devoured this! 🙂↕️🍽️ This book had things I expected, but also didn’t expect and the latter really made me fall in love with the characters. Miscommunication is not always my thing in books because I get so frustrated with the resolving part, but I felt this book appeased me with that aspect. One major thing I absolutely loved was that the characters had similar experiences and/or saw the others in a way that made them not get all judgmental (at least not for long) and then helped others to see why someone did what they did. Danni and Rose will forever be in my memory and heart. As well as the friends they had and their character development was quite remarkable and appreciated. This won’t be 5 stars, although it’s close, only because I felt like there were some things I would’ve liked drawn out more/explained better. I just wanted..more? Because this book was good 🙂↕️
And I want to thank @minsuni for recommending this book to me. Much love to you, as I said above, I really enjoyed this book and it will be one of my favorites! 🏳️🌈❤️

While I don't think this is a true cozy fantasy, I enjoyed this book nonetheless. It was a wild ride, but an exciting and bittersweet journey and there were so many themes and lessons that reflect the real world. I absolutely loved the humor because there was never a dull moment. The friendship, found family, and magic did not disappoint. This is also my first T. Kingfisher and I'm curious to read her other books if they're similar to this one. My final thoughts after reading would be: adults and government need to do better, I want to have the magical ability to control bread, and I want a gingerbread man by my side lol :)

I think one of the things that I've enjoyed the most about this book is how well the author captures the voice and worries and thoughts of a teenager. Mona's worries and thought patterns make so much sense for her age. And at the same time, it's very much an adventure tale for a teenager, and she's going through so much, and yet she still feels her age.
