When Laura says that Carmilla was "gazing at [her] in contemplation" it's because she thinks you're dumb! You just looked at a picture of a lady looking EXACTLY like her, named "Mircalla" ffs!! Laura is a bimbo.
The walk in the garden was SO GAY tho. I need me some weird vampire lady whose flirting is creepy.
I try to be invested in this book in a sapphic way, but it too often feels like this was written by a rich straight white man in the 1870s (which, it is, I know.) But through the lens of an early vampire story it's really compelling.
