It’s always hilarious to me when a book is heralded as a must read classic and it inevitably has the weirdest plot imaginable. Here’s this book about baby electroshock therapy, it’s important for our society.

I personally really liked this book. The audiobook narrator really contributed to that, however, with his fantastic voice acting. The writing itself tended towards telling rather than showing, but I can forgive such a misstep since the story was well paced and the two main characters lovable and very human. Plus you get some cool medical stuff thrown in. Honestly I’m charmed, also gave me some Hannibal vibes.

This is actually fantastic so far. Audiobook narrator needs a raise, too.

This was fairly underwhelming, and portrayed the overdone trope of “this boy is mean to but can’t express his emotions ugh he’s so cute and mysterious”. Van got away with way too much in this book, to the point where when he did finally say something of emotional meaning it felt super out of character. Bleh.

Really enjoying it so far. One of those books that would have benefited from not being YA. Still too early to judge since I feel neither the characters nor the world have completely unraveled yet but despite that it's a pleasant read and I'm enjoying the pirate vibes.
