  • Listening to audiobooks is reading. Help a girl out to explain this to a very logical thinking brain 🫠

Hey everyone! So i'm currently engaging in a discussion with my girlfriend, trying to explain to her why listening to audiobooks is considered "reading" and for the life of god i am running out of ideas how to best explain it to her bc she just won't get it 🫠

So far she's running hard on the terminology and it just won't make sense to her why i would call listening to audiobooks "reading". Bc "listening" is listening and "reading" is reading. Eyes can't listen and ears can't read. Where she, technically, has a point. She has argued that if she would only listen to a movie's audio, she obviously wouldn't have watched the movie. And if a mother would read their 3y/o child a book, the child wouldn't have automatically "read" the book themselves, they would have listened to it ofc. Other examples she used were: she'd not be able to read a photo book, she'd be looking at it, since she can't read pictures. Or that drawing a picture with a pencil wouldn't make it a painting, bc drawing is drawing and painting is painting.

So, if you have any idea how i can best explain it to her, please help a girl out 😭 i am absolutely loosing my patience over here 🥲
