I want to rate this book three and a half stars but Goodreads doesn't do half stars. Anyway...
A Fowl Match is a very fun, cute story about Violet and Dustin falling for each other. They hate each other at first but learn to deal with each other during an annual competition in their small town.
Violet is a great character. She's sweet and funny. And her inner dialogue made me smile multiple times.
I also really love her best friend, Olive.
Dustin is a great guy. I do wish he had more POV chapters. And I would've liked to hear more about his life before he came to work on his grandparents farm. Maybe what he liked about the city or why he became an accountant, or how Nolan and him became best friends.
The story is definitely more focused on Violet and her past, and how it is affecting her in the present.
The town deserved some more attention too. It seems like such a fun, quirky place to live with all the chickens walking around and the gossip mill. And the side characters seemed really great. I would've liked to see more of Mason and Olive, and Henry, and Constance.
All in all, I enjoyed the story.
Dustin yelling compliments at Helga, the chicken, to get her to run faster was fantastic. Made me laugh. And I definitely want to try a pepperoni roll from The Cheese Stick.

Beacon of Hope: Paths of Darkness and Light is an intriguing superhero origin story starring Tricia, a scientist with a traumatic past and a kind heart.
The story follows Tricia as she learns about her powers and decides to become her city's beacon of hope. Often, with her adorable cat, Rascal, by her side, at least when she's not wearing her mask.
I really enjoyed Tricia's journey. At first, she doesn't know what's going on, what her powers are, or how to use them (who would, right?), but she doesn't get discouraged, instead, she quickly starts learning, experimenting, and testing herself and her powers, which made for a very fun, fascinating storyline.
She's strong, determined, smart, and kind, with a great sense of humor. I loved the little comments she would think to herself or say to her sparring dummy, George.
The cast of characters Tricia is surrounded by is great too, and really caught my attention, even if they didn't get much time in the spotlight. I hope to see more of Tricia's friends and allies in the next installments of the series.
Beacon of Hope is a story about choosing to be the best version of yourself rather than the worst. Tricia could've been something completely different, but she chose to be a positive influence on the world. She wants to help people, inspire people, not destroy them.
Sure, her powers gave her the means to become Beacon, but her powers aren't why she's a hero. Tricia's good heart and bravery are why she's able to be the beacon of hope her city needs and adores.
And I can't wait to see how Tricia continues her journey and what new challenges she'll face.

This book was really good, very emotional, and intriguing. The world is fascinating with supernatural creatures, different kingdoms, and a war. It's dark, sad, but as the main character gains hope, so did I as I continued reading.
The main character, Saoirse, is strong and traumatized, doing her best to survive while in enslaved by an evil king. Luckily, she has one good, true friend who loves her purely, honestly. And eventually, she gains more friends, too.
I really enjoyed the love triangle, but there's one suitor in particular that I was rooting for pretty much as soon as he became an option.
And the adventure Saoirse goes on was filled with twists and surprises.
And I found the fact that this story is inspired by Irish mythology very interesting. I don't know much about Irish mythology, but I think this story made me want to learn more.
I'm really hoping there's a sequel in the works.

I love this book. It's on my bookshelf and I've read it twice. I adore Emma Carstairs. She's a sword-wielding badass. And I love Julian Blackthorn.
