Takes all the best plot points and tropes from romcoms (enemies-to-lovers, insufferable main character x insufferable love interest, etc) but makes it trans as hell and mind altering.
Acrasia is a black trans woman whose main hobbies include being incredibly pretentious, wallowing, and refusing to face reality. She's childish, pompous, delusional, confrontational, selfish, and also a bit of a liar. And yet, I still rooted for her and her epic romance throughout the entire story.
This book had me cracking up, gasping, kicking my feet, and crying in equal measures. If all romantasies/romcoms were like this book, I think would be a big fan of the genre. I genuinely recommend this to any trans person who wished 'Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind' represented them more closely.
As Nicole Kidman once wisely stated --
Somehow, heartbreak feels good in a place like this.
A few recommendations for when you read this book (and you should):
You know those fandom crossovers Tumblr people liked to do with their shows? Think: Sailor Moon, MadoMagi, Power Rangers, and Voltron all mashed into one Avant Garde anime landscape. Yeah, that's all I can really describe it.
