Trigger warnings: grooming, power imbalance, sexual content and assault, dysfunctional family dynamics, disordered eating, blood mention, stalking, and alcoholism.
This story was so fucked up, so beware of the trigger warnings ‼️
I felt so uncomfortable with the relationship, with her obsession, with his obsession, and the fact that Waldo didn’t have any good role models or support system to deter her from being in this fucked up relationship to begin with.
But overall, I really liked the writing. McCurdy’s writing really has a way of getting under your skin.

Trigger warnings: anxiety and panic attacks, familial estrangement, past toxic relationships, sexual content, and mentions of minor injuries.
Not my fave story in this series, but I thought Caleb and Layla were super cute together. The chemistry between them was spot on and I loved the connection that they built with each other.

This was not what I expected at all. But then again I don’t know what I expected as I didn’t read the synopsis. But I guess I wasn’t expecting this to be a mystery 😂
The mystery itself was interesting. Sometimes the political stuff was a tad boring and I felt the book was a tad bit longer than it should have been for a mystery. I also wished the romance was focused on a bit more than it was. It seemed like something that was just sprinkled in from time to time.
But overall, it was enjoyable.

If you are looking for a story about cheerful youngsters spending a jolly time at boarding school, look elsewhere. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are intelligent and resourceful children, and you might expect that they would do very well at school. Don't. For the Baudelaires, school turns out to be another miserable episode in their unlucky lives.
Truth be told, within the chapters that make up this dreadful story, the children will face snapping crabs, strict punishments, dripping fungus, comprehensive exams, violin recitals, S.O.R.E., and the metric system.
It is my solemn duty to stay up all night researching and writing the history of these three hapless youngsters, but you may be more comfortable getting a good night's sleep. In that case, you should probably choose some other book.
