3.1★ the writing was much better compared to the previous two. the plot was more engaging as well. not as much overexposure, which was fantastic, but still a lot of badly written paragraphs and a big lack of organization of things are told. has the same problems as the rest of the trilogy with a lot of telling instead of showing, and side plots that make no sense whatsoever; and not in a "you have to forget about everything that makes sense in reality" way, but in a "this is just badly written, and the author isn't even trying to make it make sense in-universe" way. i read fantasy and sci-fi, i know how to read stories that don't make sense in our world but have their own rules, and this isn't it. these are just decisions that backfired or weren't thought of and developed enough to make sense. this book FINALLY sold me on neil as the protagonist, because i hated having his pov on the other two. i genuinely thought kevin would've been a better choice as the mc up until this book. not even gonna mention the justification of actions that should NOT be excusable or else i would never shut up. good for you if you like these books, but overall they're very weak and extremely annoying. the plot is interesting enough to get you going, but most of it isn't really worth it.
