Disfigured: On Fairy Tales, Disability, and Making Space

WOW the reframing of fairytales as existing within the medical model of disability where disability must be "fixed" and overcome through hard work and grit. i actually thought this would be more about fairytale villains which are often depicted as disabled, old, or ugly (maybe it will be later) but this is such an interesting perspective
and i love that the author is including examples from fairytales all around the world, not just European fairytales (though they do feature heavily)
"This is possibly why there’s almost always a price that a protagonist pays for the magic of their transformation. You cannot simply move from one place to the next – society won’t allow it. And so the protagonist must prove their worthiness – through good deeds and gentle behaviour, as in the case of Cinderella, or, as with the Little Mermaid, through sacrifice and trial."

I am cracking up at this old guy rambling nonsense. I had to read this section like 3 times and I still have no idea what he's saying 😂 Also imagining Mina taking the time to write this interaction in detail is sending me. What this has to do with the story line I am not completely sure but I'm here for it.

We have a banned book project in school so I chose The Bell Jar! So far my stance is that it shouldn’t be banned for its sexual content/ mental illness… but if it had to be banned it should be for its racism

Quick announcement of some smaller updates -
We have new avatars for levels 3 and 4. Level 3 has two new dragons to choose from, and level 4 has three food-inspired avatars 🥐🌶️🍚
We also have two new feeds on your homepage. You'll see your Main Feed (the normal feed you're used to), a Following feed (just activity from people you follow) and My Books (the feed that is currently on Discuss, this is just posts from books in your library). Many people have been asking for a following feed :)
In your Main feed and My Books feed, you will no longer see posts from TBR books that are marked as spoilers.
We're aware of an intermittent bug on the app when posting in the book forum (from the book page specifically). The feed updates + a bug fix for this is out on iOS, please update your app to see these changes. On Android, we're still awaiting app approval - in the meantime there is a workaround : use the currently reading card on your home feed, which has a "Post to Forum" button, to post rather than going to the book page.

If I have a particular edition of a book that I don't see in the list, how do I add it?

Is anyone else missing certain features in their app?

I can only label a book as "owned" on the website.
Also:

My system buttons are blocking access to the emoji category picker.

My sentimental favorite is Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass, which I appreciate more and more all the time with the knowledge that Dodgson was primarily a mathematician and logician. There's cleverness in all of the so-called "nonsense"!
I also grew up reading Star Trek novels. That's by far my biggest series collection on my bookshelf. And I recently read the hard-hard-hard science fiction Dichronauts by Greg Egan and thoroughly enjoyed it, even if it was harder than usual to picture.
But at the end of the day, this old lady wants fantasy. ✨

I'm working on one now, in fact! The third draft of a "clothing-on" (I believe this is the scale we are using now?) historical romance that is precisely the story I've been wanting to read for a while, complete with period-appropriate references and everything!
