  • Thoughts on authors with large bodies of work (100+ books)?

I think I've realized that I have a bias against authors who have written a lot of books. In the title I said 100+, but even at 50+ I start to get a little sideye/skeptical about it, because I feel like how is it possible to write THAT many books and have them all be high quality? I'm specifically talking about authors who write full length novels for adults, because I think with short stories or children's books that's much more reasonable to publish loads.

    Anyone else??

  • People We Meet on Vacation - the trailer is out! + thoughts

Has anyone else seen the trailer for People We Meet on Vacation? Watch the trailer here What does everyone think of it? I personally loved it, and I'm now even more excited for the movie. I really think I'm going to have to do a quick reread before the movie comes out in January (so soon!).

  • Question for the bilingual readers out there...

I've started reading in the language I'm learning and I understand it pretty well, but would like to be able to read a little faster by not needing to think about what every word is in English. 😅

When do you go from reading and mentally translating into your native language to reading and understanding IN the language?

Do you have any tips for intermediate learners starting to read novels in the language they're studying?

I've started to take the approach of a sci-fi novel that starts out with a bunch of conlang and you figure out the words you don't know as you go, but I'd be curious to hear how others go about it!!

Anyone else excited for the movie adaptation coming on January 9, 2026? Was thinking of doing a reread in December for it.

  • What book made you a reader?

What book made you fall in love with reading? As a kid I caught the reading bug after reading books by Jacqueline Wilson and the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. As an adult I fell back in love with reading when I discovered romantasy and read Fourth Wing, ACOTAR, and From Blood and Ash.

  • Authors that are politicians--thoughts?

Hey y'all so this past week I started a book without realizing until starting that the person is a state representative and I'm a bit uncomfortable because of certain things--specifically with a choice they made recently. But it made me wonder--do you find reading books by politicians (like Obama/Clinton) something you are comfortable with? Do you find it important to get their perspective?

  • R.F. Kuang's hate

I'll preface this by coming forward as Kuang fan. I loved The Poppy War and Yellowface. Yes Kuang is pretty forward in her writing and tells you everything in the book. It's not my prefered style, but I'm a layperson in the subject she touches in her writing (ex.: China's occupation by Japan or traduction). It doesn't bother me and also understand that some people need to be punch in the face to understand... I mean some people still think Hunger Games is about a love triangle...

Any who, I am more than able to engage critically in a work and I appreciate when people engage with work I have loved. It offers a different perspective and allows litterature to bloom outside of the confinement of the book. Discussion is at the heart of any art form and whithout criticism it's rather pointless.

However, what gets me it's the unnecessary hate on her person... It reaks of mysoginy and racism. I don't understand the necessity to downplay her intelligence. She is undeniably intelligent and it cheapen any critic you can have to deny that. I also think it's interesting that she is criticed for being "too academic" when people keep complaining that we are in anti-intellectualism critic.

What are your thoughts? Are you seeing the same patterns I am seeing? Or am I blowing this out of proportion.

  • Android app is available to the public!

Very excited to announce that you can now download the app on Android!! Google Play approved us this afternoon :) we're still waiting on Apple and will make a big release announcement once both platforms are available.

If you're on Android, we'd love if you give us a download and leave a review. In typical non conformist PB fashion I do find it hilarious that we are available on Android before Apple; a karmic win for all our Android baddies.

Can't wait to see what everyone thinks of the app!!

  • Have you also been a victim of BookTok?

I have found great content creators on BookTok and discovered books that have forever changed me. I also read the worst book ever. So tell me, what was the worse rec you got from Book Tok?

No Colleen Hoover or SJM. Let's be a bit controversial

  • Best Book to Get Out of a Reading Slump

Exactly as the title says. I love reading and have a lot of books I want to read that just came out, but I just can't get into the flow. It's taking me weeks to finish a book, and I have even been trying different genres to get me out, but I just can't.

What are some fast-paced, fun books with likable characters who are witty? I would prefer a romcom, but am up for anything. I do want there to be a happy-ish ending, basically a mood lifter.

I will literally try any book lol, but if you would like me to specify: I love Emily Henry, Lynn Painter, B.K. Borison, Ali Hazelwood. I tend to go for hockey romances, enemies-to-lovers, he falls first, 'who did this to you?' vibes (not necessarily all at once lmfao). Some of my favorite reads include The Crimson Moth duology, the GrishaVerse books (the Crows supremacy), Better Than the Movies, Long Live Evil, and The Return of Ellie Black.

Thank you for reading my solo yapp session and I would really appreciate the help!

    🍂 September Wrap Up 🍂

Since September is coming to an end (already?? oof), I wanted to check in with everyone and ask what your reading month has been like? Did you read more than usual or less? Have you started with the Fall readalong?

I read two books less than last month but still my “normal amount” you could say and even managed to read 3 out of the 5 fall readalong books!! and since I read Don’t Let the Forest In last year, I only have one left to go!

template for anyone who’d like to share some september stats:

books in total: favourite: least favourite: most surprising: longest vs shortest: october read to look forward to:

I’ll share my own stats in the comments as well 💗

  • French reader/speaker 🥖⚜️

    Hello 👋🏽 Salut 👋🏽

Are there any French readers or speakers ? I know this platform is mostly based in the U.S., but it would be so fun to connect with other francophone readers 🤩

Alors, dis-moi quel est ton roman francophone préféré ? Le livre que tu veux toujours recommander, mais que tu as pas la chance parce que tu connais juste des lecteurs anglophones?

  • TBR

i'm wondering about how everyone documents their tbr lists.

i personally use the stickie notes app on my mac and have a list of all of the books (in order of release) + the authors + as well as their release date.

(edit!) i do want to mention that i am currently living abroad and only have access to my kindle for books. and therefore don't have any "physical books"
