If I had to sum up this book in one word, that word would be “underwhelming.”
I have heard a lot of good things about this book and I just don’t get it. The plot is boring, the characters are unlikable, and the “twist” was obvious from the beginning. I was bored but kept reading in the hopes that the ending would save it, and unfortunately that didn’t happen. I didn’t care for the writing either. It was trying a little too hard to say deep and meaningful things about life and felt kind of cringy to me.
But I am clearly in the minority here. This book is so popular and has high ratings on other apps, so if you think it sounds interesting, you should read it. And if you enjoy it, maybe you can come back and explain to me what I missed 😂

Based on everything I’ve heard about this book, I expected it to be much more twisty and exciting. So far it’s been kind of boring and I’m disappointed.

Let me start by saying this is a me problem, not a book problem, but I’m struggling to get through this book. I think it’s the structure - it’s like each chapter is a separate essay, so I read a chapter and it’s good but then it feels like I’m finished and I don’t want to pick it up again. I’ve been listening to the audiobook too, which is also good but I’m still not motivated to finish it. I’ve been reading for two weeks and I’m not even 50% through. Just wanted to vent a little bit.

Not sure how I feel about the writing style yet. It contains a lot of short incomplete sentences used for emphasis which I know is more common nowadays but it's a style that seems a bit juvenile to me when it's used as often as it has been so far just in the first 10 pages. I hope it gets toned down a bit as the story continues.
I know this might be too early of a judgement but after hearing from everyone and their mother how amazing this book is, I guess I was expecting more mature prose to go along with this supposedly amazing story.
I love a narrator with a distinct narrative voice and was hoping I'd vibe with this one
I'm really hoping I can shake this off and get invested in the main characters soon.

If you're a completionist, read in this order. Otherwise you can start with The Liveship Traders Trilogy or The Rain Wild Chronicles, but make sure you save Fitz and the Fool for last.

An introduction to the Classics, these books are part of the cultural zeitgeist or the 'canon' that many would recognize. Look for more niche titles in later Starter Pack volumes.

Aside from my 40 book goal, I really want to start annotating more. I think I struggle with this because I get so many library books and it's hard/time consuming to transfer the context of my notes to my reading journal. But at least for the ones I own, I want to put forth more effort.
I also want to be more social but part of that struggle is I don't do well with small talk. So another book-related goal I have is to start attending more book club meetings at my libraries.

by inverse unpopular opinion I mean books that aren't that loved but you love, or if you have any niche books that aren't famous but should be tell me. The title is mostly clickbait😂
my examples: for niche book we have "the secret diary of Laura palmer". I understand why this is niche because you only know about this book if you watched Twin peaks but seriously, is one of my favourite books all of you go whatch the series, then the movie and then the book thank you
and another one would be "from blood and ash", I know it is very loved but most of the youtubers/content creators I follow hate it and, surprisingly, because its not the kind of books I read at all, I really liked it and I finished really quickly although being like 600 pages.
tell me yours!!
