The cutest couple dynamic with adorable illustrations! Reading this, I relate as someone in a relationship but however there were small references and activities that might be unrelatable as someone living in the west coast. Overall definitely checking out Catana’s other books for ideas to incorporate as a couple.

I enjoyed learning about “cathexis” and understanding that love is an action, but after Chapter 5, bell hooks started straying off topic. I get that she includes religious anecdotes, is inspired by spirituality, or was writing after one of America’s low points, but it didn’t feel necessary to push readers toward that path to understand and practice love. She also half-heartedly explains concepts and opinions with odd analogies that don’t really fit. hooks has a very idealistic view of the world, and while I’m sure it was helpful when she wrote this book, it didn’t fully resonate with me. I would say, however, that it’s great for anyone interested in an idealistic view of love who wants reassurance on how to seek and give love outside of romance.
