Superiority complex so big the book can barely contain it

Ok I get it now. I'm really excited to read the rest of this series. This was an insane start to an epic series, we cover so much time! I found that there was a good balance between the action/plot and the character development. And Ken Liu's writing is excellent. There were some speeches that characters gave that literally had me gagged. Not only were they just genuinely well written speeches but they also told us so much about who the character is and what they value. And god there were so many characters I loved - even the characters I hated I still loved because they were so compelling to read about.
The one thing that isnt working for me is the large time jumps. At a certain point its was like every chapter was a jump months or years into the future. While I think it was effective to tell the story that Ken Liu was aiming, I think I generally have a hard time with big time jumps. They take me out of the story and I have a harder time finding the rhythm of the story.
