Don’t hate me but I feel like these books have felt so info dumpy :/ there have been pages and pages of “explaining” history that feels too convenient and unnatural. How do these characters suddenly know or reveal plans centuries in the making that seem out of thin air. And every time an enemy traps/attacks the group, they spend so long spoiling their plans before killing anyone that it has felt like scooby doo “and I would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for you meddling kids!” I can’t remember if I felt this way with the other SJM series but CC has felt particularly egregious. Curious if anyone else feels this way!

Stunned that this is a debut. It reminded me so much of a lot of books I’ve loved in the weird girl lit-fic genre. Wambugu’s characters were so complex and hard to pin down. It was frustrating to watch Ruth be a doormat to everyone she loved, but it was a testament to how deeply she loves, even when it’s misguided. I can’t wait to see what Wambugu writes next!

Dark!! I enjoyed the twists but there were some pretty dark parts to the story. Overall though it was the audiobook I needed!
