I enjoyed the book and really liked the writing style, but the last 20% felt a bit abrupt. I do think those plot points could have happened, but I wish they had been built up and delivered more naturally. I also expected a more even mix of historical fiction and romance. The story leaned much more into the romance, while the historical context mostly felt like a setting rather than an integral part of the story.

adored the writing style, getting to know each character and how full circle the story was “There you are, I have been looking all over for you” 😭😭😭

I did not expect to enjoy the story as much as I did but i was engrossed throughout - through every side quest and every reveal - the story beautifully encapsulated this feeling of coming home/family and the painful moments that make us who we are

Pachinko left me quite speechless and with a heavy heart. I was nervous about reading a multi-generational epic because I thought I'd get bored or lose track of the characters, but I was hooked throughout.

The ending was incredibly poignant and honestly left me feeling a little uneasy. Sunja's reflections made me realize how life simply carries on, built on the sacrifices of ordinary families whose struggles are eventually forgotten. It also left me thinking about my own family history and wondering about the hardships, sacrifices, and stories my grandparents and great-grandparents lived through that I'll never fully know.

Anywho, thoughts were indeed provoked, and I am now left staring into the abyss
