The sex scenes were the least interesting parts of this book, and I often found myself skipping over them and getting back to the main plot. At some point, Ruby all but forgets she's trying to write a cookbook and distracts herself by trying to save the Cozy Hearth for her hosts. As someone who also avoids my writing-related work deadlines, I found this extremely relatable.

Wish this one had leaned into the violent colonial history a bit more (it's mentioned in the summary but doesn't really come into play until the end). Overall, it was brooding, atmospheric, and foreboding. Much like Sophie, I found myself lost in a humid, enveloping haze, unsure what was past, present, fact, or fiction.

Is this book absurd? Yes. Does it drag the "will she, won't she?" out too long, right up to the ending? For sure. Is it charming and worth every minute of reading? But of course.

A perfectly delightful cozy read, with a lovable cast of characters and a delightful little town.

Psalm is quite possibly my favourite love poem ever.

God, there's nothing quite as enjoyable as Caroline's reportage. I enjoy nothing so much as I enjoy curling up with one of her cookbooks and traveling.
