As a horror book, I donāt think it works. But as a suspenseful historical fiction book I think it works very well. It does have gore, body horror, possession elements and such, but it wasnāt necessarily scary. Just more ambient. It is a slower paced book and has a lot of lead up before the āactionā starts. Everything really starts to happen on the last 30% of the book. However, I actually really enjoyed the lead up, even more than the ending. To me, it made sense that the possession happens slowly because it made it more believable. And interweaving the history felt very important. I found the over all story very compelling and I very much enjoyed learning all the info on Nahuatl. As a Mexican American who grew up catholic and in America, you donāt learn much about Mexican indigenous culture and this was a really fun way to learn these parts of those cultures. Specially since my grandfather who died before I was born was Nahuatl. I love how the story is told from different points of views from Nahuatl people, catholic people, and Mexican Americans. You could tell the author has a deep love for Mexico but also understands the real corruption and violence that is still prevalent and how colonization continues to affect Mexico. However there were moments where you could definitely tell it was women written by a man. Just the way that some of the female characters reacted to some situations and even some of the dialogue. That part was definitely lacking. Plus I felt like the internal monologues seemed more genuine than the actual dialogue. I wish we also actually saw more of Lunaās point of view during the possession. I listened to the audiobook and I wish I wouldāve read it instead. Just because Lunaās voice was too juvenile, and I thought she was like 6 years old for like 15% of the book until they said she was 11. And the āpossessionā voices sounded kinda silly. Buuuut having the audiobook helped speed up some of the slowness. So itās up to you! Iād definitely recommend!

For those who've ever bought a book purely based on the cover, which book was as good as the cover looked? So, for me it was The Sisters Brothers by Patrick DeWitt. I don't know why but the cover grabbed my attention and at the time I had no clue who this author was, also, the book is a modern type western, so far, far, from my taste but I took the risk anyway, bought it and ended up so engrossed in it I read it in two days (even while at work), and cried at the end because the story is quite sad and I was so invested in those brothers. For me it more than lived up to the cover! Curious to know about others :)

If youāre wanting to read the book before the movie releases, I highly, highly recommend to not watch the Project Hail Mary movie trailer. It reveals way too much. In the book, things are revealed slowly and with great suspense. The trailer will spoil everything. I definitely recommend you read the book! Listening to the audiobook is great as well.

So I feel really new in the reading department. Itās been years since I read a book until January this year. Now, I feel a little lost on what I like and what I donāt so Iāve been trying a little bit of different genre, it seems that Iām enjoying romance the most. Please leve me some recs of your favorite romance books, the ones you couldnāt stop reading and you would definitely reread! Tia š

I'm usually reading a book while listening to a different book for times when I'm doing mundane adult shit or hobbies where I can't have a book in my hand but want my mind engaged in a story. Anyone else think it would be cool to have a "listening" status or do you consider listening to audiobooks and reading physical books the same thing?

Hi everyone! Iām so excited to have come across Pagebound. I am loving it so far! Iām relatively new to the horror genre; I just really started getting into it this year. Iām slowly making a list of books to try as my threshold for all things scary increases, so I wanted to ask: what are some of your favorite horror books?
