reading this for the culture and also out of curiosity the writing so far is riding the line between good fanfic and not good fanfic, but it's definitely giving fanfic. this isn't a dig at fanfics, those are written for fun and out of love (or sometimes hate) for a story by people who aren't generally writers, but this is a published novel that's made millions of dollars tbh if I'd read it at like 13 like tons of other people did, I probably would have been obsessed too, the way Bella describes herself is relatable If the synopsis didn't give it away (and the Edward being a vampire thing wasn't on a who Luke's father is level of pop culture knowledge), why Edward is acting this way would be kind of compelling, especially after the scene in the office also Bella followed up describing Edward's hair as reddish-brown (my hair color) with 'unusual' and I just found that funny XD

As someone who's spent a lot of time in small town church settings, this felt extremely accurate: the petty drama, the gossip, the disagreements in worship practices, the little sprinkles of the daily life of a clergyman, they were all highly entertaining to me also the actual mystery had me guessing the entire time and I did not see the actual resolution coming Agatha Christie has this thematic line of justice running through her books that is just fascinating to me, every book plays with it differently but it's always there

Okay fellow Pagebound users I have a question for you! When you are reading a book what do you see? This sounds crazy but I had a conversation with my sister and we both agree we visualize the characters and everything that happens pretty vividly like we are there with the characters or maybe like a movie, sometimes even smells or feelings based on what we’re reading. however I asked another friend and they said they just see words on a page??? 🤔🤔I have done some googling and it appears there is a gradient of what people see when they picture an image or read a book? This is news to me as I thought the appeal of reading is to vividly hallucinate to, if you think about it….ink shapes on dead trees? Anyways wondering if anyone has anything to add to this lol - I may delete this as it might not make any sense but I hope it does🤔

"Everyone has a secret self they don't show to other people. Not to friends, not to lovers, not even to family. They hide who they are and what they want behind lies and painted smiles. And thus the world maintains its thin veneer of peace." about to go a bit deep on main, but I think this quote really encapsulates the world of the manga and the series itself. It's a beautiful city and a prestigious school and elegant (ha) clothing but the people within them are scheming to either keep the world together via often morally gray or immoral ways, or to reignite a war that would destroy both sides. It's a cute slice-of-life comedy with pretty drawings and funny, endearing characters and silly plotlines, but underneath the surface there's a current of what could happen if the facade breaks, if Twilight/Loid fails, and that's something with the power to fundamentally change the story if given the chance. and yet, somehow, in this family built on lies atop all these other lies, there's the hint that something can maybe become real for once also I laughed like a half dozen times

Post from the Romance Starter Pack Vol I forum

(after reading through the PageboundGuide and Content Guide, I still wasn't sure where to post this, but it was pretty clear to not post author-specific questions in the club, so I thought this was my best bet; I'll delete this if that turned out wrong)
So I'm generally a romance avoider; spec fic is my beloved and usually in those genres I want the focus to be on the speculative part, but I do enjoy a good romance subplot and I like trying new things, so I thought I might give the romance genre a try. I thought Emily Henry might be a good starting place, since I've heard she has strong characters and more emotionally heavy plots and that sounds more my speed So, my questions. One: which book of hers is the best starting place for a person new to her books? And two: how much spice is in her books? I'm a low spice/closed door type of reader (just not my thing and I'm still scarred from idly picking up some of my mom's Bridgerton books at too young an age), but I'm willing to skim/skip if necessary, I'd just like to know what I'm getting into Thank you for any and all help, and hopefully this is the right place for this question!
