james baldwin has things to say and you will listen!!
this book is such an intimate and in depth glimpse of the intersectionality between race, sexuality and gender in the 1960s. its messy and heartbreaking, and it makes you think about privilege and discrimination and all that.
i love how baldwin writes about these issues. he makes it human, and so close. the characters aren't all picture perfect, theyre filled with flaws but you cant help but feel for them.
i read in a review where someone said baldwin writes like jazz and i agree wholeheartedly. his prose is beautoful and carries so much intent and feeling that makes you do a double take and actually process it.

first austen book completed!!!
i chose s&s as my first austen mainly because 1) it was the first one i saw and 2) i saw eldest daughter and went click.
despite it being set literally 200 years earlier, it is refreshing to see how a lot of the themes and characteristics of people still uphold. and it is also interesting to see the standards and morals of the people back in the time.
the relationship between the sisters was really special as it reminded me of kate and edwina from bridgerton actually. despite how one relies more on logic and one on feelings, they both have so much love for each other and their reactions are based on their logical processings.
i love how the resolution of the romantic relationships were believable despite it being set in 1800s. ironically, more believable than some of the stories ive read.
also, love how men sucked both in 1800s and now. somethings never change i guess
