Non Fiction That's Actually A Great Read
a list of non fiction books about a wide variety of topics that are actually a great reading experience, even if sometimes tough to read because of the subject it covers (in other words, you may get angry, you may be in awe, but you'll definitely learn something)

Review of the audiobook : 5 stars, absolutely amazing! All of Olivie Blake's audiobooks are great so I had high expectations and Dreamland met them. Good cast of narrators, very fun use of chorus / quick changes of narrators to build an intensity to important moments. Perfect listening experience!
Review of the book : 4 stars, Oh Olivie Blake my beloved, I adore her writing style and how vibrant her characters' inner life is. Some people would say she forgets to add plot to her books but TO ME, vibes and social commentary and rich inner monologue do not require lots of action. My only criticism is that the book feels a bit repetitive or too long between 40-65%, like some stuff in the middle could have been shortened and still achieve the same impact, but regardless I was happily along for the ride. I want to keep this as vague as possible because I strongly believe this book is one you should go into knowing the least you can, but broadly, the themes are fame and Hollywood, misogyny and violence against women, and what's one willing to sacrifice to "make it".
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to read this ALC. Dreamland comes out on August 11th, 2026.

I've read many of Chuck Tingle's books and I LOVED Bury Your Gays and Lucky Day so I was really excited to get this advanced copy, I started reading it right away! I had very high expectations and I am happy to say Fabulous Bodies did not disappoint.
Review of the audiobook : 5 stars, absolutely fantastic, Mara Wilson's narration is SO good I was hooked instantly by her voice I listened at 2x and 2.5x and it was perfectly legible
Review of the book : 4 stars, such a fun horror with very on point social commentary (I think this is Tingle's greatest strength, writing a story with a plot that, at first, seems completely wild and strange, but then ends up being SUCH a good portrait of real life, often in unexpected ways) While I think the main character was a bit too oblivious / slow to connect the dots (at one point I was like, come on girl are you kidding me ???), I had a great time reading this book and I will be recommending it to everyone I know Important to note that this book does have a few quite gross body horror scenes, but I personally love when books make me squirm and cringe in discomfort, so that's always a bonus for me
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to read this ALC. Fabulous Bodies comes out on July 7th, 2026.

underwhelming.
Let’s be honest… team Messer all the way.
The backstory/plot and world building for the series needs a lot of work. It didn’t make any sense. This left plotholes. Also, there were several grammatical errors which have to be pretty significant for me to catch. The romance felt like it was missing a lot of chemistry..
Overall, this book felt pretty dull and nothing happened for a majority of it. I probably wouldn’t recommend this series. If you really loved the first book then you may enjoy this one?

fuck this sucks I LOVED book one and this was just not good It's not offensively bad but Acker is such a piece of trash and I hate him so much and I was so hoping the author would be brave enough to not negate everything that's set up in book one but ALAS disappointment is HUGE
whatever this is just some random fantasy book I can't let it hurt me so much
