Girl’s Girl is for anyone who related to Lady Bird, but also happens to be sapphic. More than anything, this story perfectly captured what it feels like to be a teenage girl and the long hot suburban summers where everything feels both insignificant and life-changing at the same time. It’s an incredibly honest portrayal of girlhood in all its complexity, from the intensity of female friendships to the confusion of coming to terms with your sexuality, and the complicated, ever-shifting relationships we have with our mothers.

What I loved most was how girls feel so incredibly real! They are messy, vulnerable, and most importantly, complex. This story didn’t try to pin them down to being a single archetype, like narratives about teenage girls often do. They were multifaceted and evolved throughout the story. I loved Mina, Margaret, and Eleanor equally, but for entirely different reasons.

This isn’t a grand, world-altering story, and it never tries to be. Instead, it feels like a small piece of the universe, carved out and examined with complete honesty.

Ex Marks the Spot felt like the perfect blend of cozy academia and romantic adventure: Oxford libraries, hidden manuscripts, secret societies, literary clues, second-chance romance. The chemistry between Evie and Nic was easily my favourite part. The BANTER! I also really appreciated how grounded Evie’s character felt beneath all the mystery and adventure. Her struggles with burnout and feeling left behind added very real emotional depth to the story and made the romance hit even harder. I absolutely loved this!
