Lover of eclectic manga, interested in the "wild pain and decay" of life, it's a strange world. (only logging vol.1s of multi-volume mangas I complete so as to not bloat my library).

I needed to read my copy before going to rewatch FWWM in cinemas some days from now. I mourn Laura forever. Thank you David Lynch, and Jen Lynch, for giving voice to such an important character

Up there with how it felt to watch Fire Walk With Me for the first time, depictions of incestuous and/or pedophilic abuse like these are horrifically necessary (and few are explored with such complex awareness). The perception that this novel deals with "taboo" topics does absolutely nothing to help the real Lolitas in the world - victims will continue to be ignored and abused as long as the stigma is there. I felt sick as I closed the book, primarily with hatred for HH and insurmountable sorrow for Dolores, but it was of the most important things I've ever read (and damn good, at that).

I don't think Humbert Humbert is a laughable man, he's just despicable. I couldn't remove the scowl I had on my face reading this book if I tried. His words are never once "convincing" of his point of view, I was rather aware of and unsurprised at his projections and his justifications for his own feelings/actions, but disgusted no less. That is what makes him dangerous. That is what makes him real. That is what makes Nabokov's writing quite spectacular. It is simply no surprise, however, that a vast audience assumed they were to believe Humbert's words and romanticize it, too. As is standard of patriarchy (and Hollywood and pop culture's depictions. I'm also looking at you Lana Del Rey...).
