I really love the core idea of this book and the girls' characterizations, and that's why I really wish it was written a bit better. If the author just reeled it in a bit it would be so good, but the over-the-top satire is laid on so thick at the beginning that it probably turns off a lot of readers from finishing. And then toward the middle of the book there's less of this, which is nice but it almost feels like the author just gave up a bit, especially when she mentions something like Nair rather than another silly fictional product for a product placement footnote (which was in abundance in the beginning). Like, I'd prefer an author stick to their guns or tone it down from the beginning. If the book was outright bad I probably wouldn't care enough to be griping in a forum post. But I'm also curious about other people's thoughts on this, and if maybe I'm being too picky for a YA book?

Hi! While reading this book, I’m noticing there are a LOT of posts! Obviously people are free to do whatever they love….just a (gentle, kind, sweet) reminder that you can just post a comment on an already existing post to continue a conversation, instead of a whole new post! Especially if your comment is really personal and doesn’t have a lot to do with the book. I find that when forums are this oversaturated, it just gets to be a lot to read all of the comments, and not see the same thing again and again! I’m only about 20% into the book and I feel like I’ve read more in this forum than I have on the page 😂 I’m not saying I’m perfect, and that everything I have to say needs to be said by any means. I’ve been guilty of this as well! And of course, I’m not trying to limit anyone’s words! I just kinda wanted to throw this out there since a TON of people are reading it for a badge. Let’s have great conversations everyone ❤️

Boy did this book make me cry a lot for a cozy read. It just touched on some stuff that hits home and was written really beautifully. I liked it more than I was expecting to and glad it was highlighted for the seasonal readalong

A collection of the pilot books for popular series, for those of us who love to follow a character's journey for as long as an author will let us! Some of the below series have heavily debated starting points and book read orders--in those cases the pilot was selected based on what seems to be the most popular approach.
