This book deals with difficult topics. Please read mindfully.
Truly, it’s like she wrote this book just for me. Mythological adventures into the underworld with romance?!?!? I mean come on. You couldn’t name a book I’d like more.
Despite my hype over this book, it became my kryptonite. The slow start made it hard to get into and then right before the story picked up, I fell into a month long reading slump.
Once I did get back into it, I was really taken by the story and read a good third of the book in a few days. The only thing that ended up taking me out was part of the main character’s back story and then I needed to take a little mental health break.
However, I promised myself I wouldn’t bring this book with me into another month and I’m so happy I was able to succeed in that. I was also happy to get to finish the story because I really did enjoy it.
It had an interesting magical system, complex relationships, and a cat. I mean, that’s what I love in my fantasy stories.

I’m kind of bummed that I didn’t like this book as much as Clean Point, but alas, they can’t all be winners. I just felt like this book was a little disjointed. It couldn’t seem to commit to be a romance or a sports book and I felt like it lost its connection with the reader by spreading the plot too thin. I just didn’t care as much about the characters or the plot this time around. This book ended up being fun but not much else for me. I do think I’ll probably still check out the next book because Meg definitely does a good job making you curious about side characters!!
