Vague to the point of ephemeral - I expect there will be a point in the not too distant future where I won’t have anything left of this reading but an entry in my log. Not that it was bad - it wasn’t; it just wasn’t much of anything else either. Interested still in the rest of her books, especially the follow up coming soon. Very similar impression here to Jeff Vandermeer’s Borne/Dead Astronauts pairing: the outline of a compelling story/world without the stuff that holds it together.

I did gnot like this book. A tired, Running With Scissors-style early 2000s wacky dysfunctional family comedy with a few decent jokes, a lot of more or less flat characters and three extremely precocious children. Couldn’t help but think of Geese (the band) the entire time - to a lesser degree here but still, it’s the hype machine around an exciting new book/album/etc that really couldn’t be any less original. If this were a 2005 McSweeneys joint maybe I would have enjoyed it, but 20-something years later it’s got nothing new to say.
