Ana Huang is my guilty go-to slump buster, so here I am. Didn't fully work for me this time.

What I really can't stop thinking about is the Indian representation. Or the lack of it. Maya Singh is Indian in name only. Beyond the surname, there's virtually nothing that feels authentically Indian about her — no real cultural depth, no lived experience, nothing that made me feel like this character actually came from our culture. It felt less like representation and more like an aesthetic choice. A diversity checkbox.

The missed opportunity is honestly what stings the most. This could've been a book set in the world of food and culinary culture, the perfect backdrop to do something genuinely rich with an Indian heroine.

Indian food is bold, layered, deeply tied to identity, memory and family. There was so much to work with. Instead, we got... a dosa with strawberries and egg. I can't move on from this. I won't.

This could have been the desi girl culinary romance, is what I feel!

Indian readers, temper your expectations and maybe eat a proper dosa before you start, because you won't find one here.

I was putting this book off for so long but I guess the book found me when the time was right!

I loved this book, very interesting premise and I would love to be in this apartment!

Didn’t know about this recent release … then TikTok kept quoting it and now I’m starting it 👀📚 Anyone else end up adding books to their TBR because of TikTok? 🤭

MY FIRST READ OF THE YEAR 🏆 (Reading slumps are the worst) I genuinely had a fun time reading this!! The characters have such great camaraderie, you feel like you're part of the family, too. cute and fun! no notes!
