whats your preference? i was just having a convo with a coworker about hardcovers vs paperback and our opinions differed quite a bit! personally, i’m a paperback girl.

Physical book readers - I was chatting with some bookish friends and we were talking about managing shelf space.
Are you the type of reader to keep all your books, or do you unhaul? If you unhaul, do you do it as you read or do you do it maybe once a season?
How else do you manage your space?

Going to an author event tonight to meet Julia Armfield and Eliza Clark (and hear them talk all about their books and writing of course) and i’m soooo excited 🤩🤩
i do feel though as though my hype is mainly just being there, and listening along to them talk about their writing journeys and techniques and maybe their love of horror. like im keen to get at least one book signed by each but other than that im at a loss as to what to expect or do. as a gal who would also loooove to write horror one day, i feel i should have more talking points or questions id like to ask but im a bit at a loss. anyone have any tips or things they like to do/get in at an author event?
im so hyped for tonight and just feel i want to make the most of out of it essentially

sooo my friend leant me a book recently, it’s an old little small copy of a book and i’ve just finished reading it after having it for about 2 weeks.
unfortunately i took it out and about in my bag with me to finish it yesterday, and whilst in my bag the spine/cover of the book fell off 🫠 this is literally the first time this has ever happened to me and i can’t believe it’s happened to a friends book and not one of my own (i really wouldn’t mind as much if it was just my own). i’ve googled how to fix the issue and have been recommended PVC glue and bookbinder tape, anyone have any tips on if they’d actually work or the easiest way to go about fixing this?
a side note that if i fail at fixing the book i am 100% considering just buying my friend a new copy. it would be unfortunate though bc i think the copy she has is a limited version of the book
i feel so bad ahh any tips appreciated

apart from the odd tedious moment i adored this book and found the scary scenes some of the spookiest i’ve ever read. i also liked the characters by the end and enjoyed seeing their relationship blossom

happy september 1 yall !!!! it’s a new month!
i thought in celebration, we could all comment: (1) one (or more) things you’re looking forward to in sept - an event, a weather change, anything! (2) what book you’re most looking forward to reading this month / soon and/or (3) something you’re looking forward to in sept on PB:)
mine are (1) • a music festival with friends to avoid thinking about our upcoming exam results (they release the day after the festival) (wish me luck) (yikes) • slightly cooler & less crowded beach days when all the tourists go home (sorry tourists) 🌊 • seasonal menu at the local coffee shop!!!! hoping for something with peppermint or a pumpkin option that’s not pumpkin spice. i will also take a pumpkin spice on a different day but i LOVE pumpkin-y drinks that are pumpkin forward w/o being PS 🎃
(2) so many!!!! but my top three: • bury our bones in the midnight soil by ve side chwab (my first book of hers) • we weren’t meant to be human by andrew joseph white (i am so scared but so ready) • first-timer caller by bk borison
(3) the fall 2025 reads! i am most excited for dont let the forest in by cg wells because i have heard great things & its been on my WTR for a while. also 👀 that “maybe september” comment on the founders announcement about a possible app 👀👀👀 (pls take ur time J&L, no rush ever bc this site is lovely)
that’s all! happy september everyone 🍁🍂🧣🌞🌫️🕯️🌨️🏔️🧦🌳💧 (a temp emoji for everyone - bc i will be in 90F weather still 🥲) 📖📚🤍

Is there an author you have read everything by/trying too, even stuff thats not super popular by them.
James Herriot read everybook not just the most popualar one "all creatures great and small".
Seishi Yokomizo every book that gets translated into English i ship to Australia as soon as it comes out in the UK, i refuse to wait 4 months for it to get here.
3)Shusaku Endo - slowly going through his back catalogue, Wrote very popualar books in the past particualarly Silence, so i am trying to get through his back catalogue, while i have access to my university library who have all his out of print books.

there’s been a couple of tedious moments but overall i’m enjoying this! i literally couldn’t stop reading, was absolutely at the edge of my seat to find out what was going to happen next at the diner scene! i definitely feel more pulled into and intrigued to continue at this point of the book

I know classics are classics for a reason, but is there a classic book that everyone loves and that is considered this huge masterpiece, but you just couldn't get through it?
It's happened to me a few times. I struggled with the Lord of the Rings trilogy for years before I was able to read it and enjoy it. I think I was too young when I first tried to.
I still haven't been able to finish Jane Austen's Emma or F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. I don't know why, and I've tried many times for years. I've read other Austen books, but I struggle with Emma for some reason. I still want to try again with these books, maybe I just have to be in the right space for them to click with me haha.

Personally, I really enjoy dual POV when it’s a love story, it adds so much to the yearning and tension. If the main POV is from the female side, I especially love getting those little glimpses into the male perspective. That said, when a book goes beyond two POVs, it often feels overwhelming to me. I haven’t seen it done well very often, sometimes it’s characters I don’t really care about, or perspectives that don’t feel necessary to the story.
Curious how you all feel about this - do you prefer one perspective, dual, or a whole cast of voices? Bonus points if you can share a book where the number of POVs completely ruined the reading experience.
