i’ve read a fare share of classics and this has remained my favourite. while i wish we had a little more time in the castle, i adored following this story with the horror elements mixed in with many many elements that made me chuckle. i’m not usually sold on vampire stuff and so was dubious of even picking it up but it was a compete winner for me. 5 stars

Whether you love to hate or hate to love 'em, these literary bad girls are anything but well-behaved. *Disclaimer: we do not literally support the illegal and oft cruel behavior of these protagonists (usually); we support the authors bold enough to write them (always).

it did take me a while to get into the book but by chapter/part two, i was hooked
i loooved the writing, the way nature was written about was absolutely stunning and had me reflecting on and appreciating all the little things in life. i thoroughly enjoyed the human aspects of the book and following along in these astronaut’s lives. i was completely intrigued throughout the second half of the book, and didn’t put the book down after hitting that point, desperate to know what was going on and what was going to happen next. it grew to have some horror-esk aspects too which i adored.
some of the space/sci-fi aspects were lost on me, but i don’t typically read this genre so i blame that more on me than the book. i was a bit confused by the relationships, whilst i liked the 4 characters and the bond they had together i felt confused by their feelings and actions towards each other. but this is a novella so relationships would never have been able to be fully explored and developed anyway.
overall even the things i didn’t looove about this book have their rational explanations behind them. i read this in a day and sprinted through the second half, hence the high rating

i’m liking this quite a lot. whilst i’m not sure we’re going to get any true horror in this book, i’m enjoying the progression of the two main character’s relationship so far and the gradual exploration of the house

so luckily enough for me this has happened to me a fair few times, but do you ever get that feeling when you’re reading the blurb of a book that it just sounds like it was written exactly for you??
like you’re reading and you’re like ‘yes.. oo i’m intrigued.. oo absolutely that sounds like my kinda thing.. hell yes!’ like the entire way through the blurb. all your interests are getting ticked and mentioned, it’s going into all your little niches and favourite things in a book etc.
and there’s absolutely been times when i’ve then read the book and i/the blurb was right, it was exactly up my street; there’s also been times where the blurb’s sounded amazing but then the book’s just been bleh
idk i just absolutely adore that feeling when im reading a blurb and im like damn this is so me i may have just found a new favourite book 💖

whats your preference? i was just having a convo with a coworker about hardcovers vs paperback and our opinions differed quite a bit! personally, i’m a paperback girl.

Physical book readers - I was chatting with some bookish friends and we were talking about managing shelf space.
Are you the type of reader to keep all your books, or do you unhaul? If you unhaul, do you do it as you read or do you do it maybe once a season?
How else do you manage your space?

Going to an author event tonight to meet Julia Armfield and Eliza Clark (and hear them talk all about their books and writing of course) and i’m soooo excited 🤩🤩
i do feel though as though my hype is mainly just being there, and listening along to them talk about their writing journeys and techniques and maybe their love of horror. like im keen to get at least one book signed by each but other than that im at a loss as to what to expect or do. as a gal who would also loooove to write horror one day, i feel i should have more talking points or questions id like to ask but im a bit at a loss. anyone have any tips or things they like to do/get in at an author event?
im so hyped for tonight and just feel i want to make the most of out of it essentially
