Creepy crawling vines, sentient mushrooms, or a killer forest; no matter what shape they take, plants and fungi play a main part in these horror novels.

I like my castles cold, my moors windswept, and my heroines swooning.

i’m finding this a little bit of a slog already. idk i’m going to keep powering through and hope i get more invested, but at the moment whilst there are times i’m really interested and want to hear more about the story, there’s also a lot of slowness and overly descriptive POV’s written in the style of a classic

whilst slow to start, when this book got going it kept me intrigued throughout.
i loved that i didn’t know where it was going, i loved the occasional chapter where the perspective would change and you’d get different insight into the situation, and throughout i found that the writing flowed beautifully
some of the science talk occasionally went over my head, i also wasn’t all that convinced by the MC and her BFF’s friendship. i don’t think i loved the ending & the fact that all the challenges and desperation the MC goes through throughout the story leads to such a monotonous ending

this book has really captivated me. i was unsure where the story would be taken at the start, and how it’d fill over 300 pages. but i love how it’s progressed so far and the occasional little plot twists or drama that arises. only thing i’d say is that some of the scientific talk is hard to follow (especially that last chapter, oof), but it’s rare that it gets in the way tbh

some of the writing feels ever so slightly awkward/trying too hard. i do like how fast it’s moving, that’s massively helping me stay intrigued
i also loved the ‘train to busan’ mention 🤌🏻

so i read like the first 20 pages of this book a few months back, put it down, and have struggled to pick it back up again ever since..
i know A LOT of people looove this book and i really want to get to it, but i have absolute 0 motivation in picking it back up. idk if it’s because it’s a classic, or because it’s a bit intimidating, or ironically if it’s because it’s so beloved. any tips/motivations to get on with it?
