I enjoyed reading this after just watching and reading The Odyssey. It gives a bit of attention to what is just a passing character in the epic, but Clytemnestra rightly deserves a story to explain her actions. I like how this book starts before the Trojan war, and covers the whole tale, right up until Orestes’ ending. I felt like it gave both sides to the story, and I actually felt for both Clytemnestra and Orestes, not one or the other. Definitely an interesting take on Electra though. Overall, an excellent retelling.

Maybe meant for a younger audience than I realised. Very simple, straightforward, minimal twists and a very predictable plot. The dinosaurs didn’t do a lot, and the world building wasn’t great. A kid would probably enjoy it, but I didn’t.

Thrilling, genuinely scary, gory, tense, exciting, inventive. Wasn’t expecting much after I really disliked World War Z but the format of this book was so much better, and did the Big Foot myth(?) terrifying justice

absolutely stormed through this book in about 24 hours. It had me hooked right from the start. In a way, as the reader, you’re in the same boat at the protagonist - not quite sure what’s going on, no idea of the backstory. But as things start being revealed and new characters are introduced, the story heats up very quickly. The only thing I didn’t quite get was the creature. I’m never a fan of very ambiguous villains, unless they’re explained at the end. This one was a bit iffy for me. And to be quite honest, I was more scared of William than I was the creature. There’s certainly some hard going parts in this novel, not just the gore but the devastating story and abuse. But one thing I can say is that I enjoyed the ending.
