And now I feel bad for hating on Rowan so hard, even if he deserved it after reading the end of part 1. I'm mind blown at how good this is, and how well Maas does with character development, growth, and reveals. Just when she's making you start to loathe a character, she manages to completely flip your view upside down with a story about why they behave the way they do.
She never makes it feel like a justification for the mean things they do or say, but more of a glimpse behind the veil of what shaped them to do them. Speaks volumes to her understanding that everyone is complicated, and has things that shape the people they are today.
I'm just so impressed with her writing, and wish that more people would give it a chance and look past the books having the Romantasy genre attached to it. I'm so glad I decided to give the genre a shot, because honestly it's some of the best stories I've read.

there’s always going to be books out there that you love 99% of it but the ending throws you off
for me, the perfect son by freida mcfadden is just that. after reading it, i gave it a 5 star but since then, i’ve looked back on it and realized it was lower because of the ending. even during my initial read, i was not happy with it but blinded by how much i enjoyed reading it in whole
it really bothers me when books end on cliffhangers and the author never makes a sequel. i don’t need “happy endings” but i want true endings, not something that i’ll spend the rest of my life wondering what happened afterwards
