I think I need to research this book, I feel like I’m not getting the point
ETA: oh, apparently the author was an absurdist philosopher. I'm supposing this is some kind of thought experiment about that, because it seems like taking absurdism to an extreme. definitely does not make the philosophy convincing, as this MC is in my top 3 insufferable characters

This book feels like a deep dive into seemingly random historical events, and by the time I've almost forgotten what the book is actually supposed to be about, the gay person the chapter is centred on is introduced rather rushed towards the end. And most of the time, I still don't really understand why this person is considered a "bad gay." Will this get any better after Chapter 8, or can someone assure me that I won't spend the rest of this book feeling like I'm listening to my history book as an audiobook?

this was a fun read. for some reason I didn’t realize going into it that it would be more narrative-style. that makes for fun pop-sci but it is not good as a reference
