This was such an interesting dissection of the way that elf/fairy lore has evolved through the years - mostly focusing on Ireland and Iceland, though the author makes the point that really, any country's fairies would have followed a similar path towards the end result of an international form of fairy lore.
As someone who also prefers the older, more nuanced versions of elves and fairies, I loved seeing someone else get so passionate about the topic! He even brought up Tolkien and Lang's views on the subject matter.
Also, he called Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell as a "literary masterpiece" so I trust his judgement.

Since we all read, i am guessing my fellow pagebounders might also have fun or not library stories.
i will go first, when i was in primary school my class teacher banned me from going to the library (it was open during lunch) because i was reading too much. Apparently my best friend and i reading next to each other and not talking for 40 minutes wasnt good enough. She knew i was the ring leader of us two, so i got banned for a couple of weeks and if the librarian saw me she chased me out (She was a very nice lady and while my siblings went to the school after me i visited her and got paid to help organise the library in summer so no hard feelings). My best friend still brings it up. Does anyone else have a library story? Anything will do

We're all here since we appreciate books, but since song lyrics are poetry, I was hoping to read and listen to some of your favourites.
This was prompted by the fact that I went to see City and Colour this weekend, and I cried listening to Against the Grain, unexpectedly.
you need not to climb mountain tops you need not to cross the sea you need not to find a cure for everything that makes you weak you need not to reach for the stars when life becomes so dark and when the wind does blow against the grain you must follow your heart you must follow your heart
all your friends have come and gone and the sun no longer shines and the happiness for which you long is washed away like an oceans tide when all the hard times outweigh the good and all your words are misunderstood when the day seems lost from the start you must follow your heart you must follow your heart
Dallas Green is a musician, but also a magician. It's a gift to be able to captivate an audience with only yourself and a single instrument. Acoustic sets from any artist are always something special. 🩷
Edit: I'm saving the thread so I can listen to the music from every post as I have the time. Please keep sharing and thank you 🫶

I'm mostly asking because I have encountered books on here I have never seen in the wild, library, bookshops, on blogs, on social media, etc. Books that are super niche or even unhinged (non-derogatory). I'll look at some niche lists and think "how did you even find those books?"
I would not have known that a Minion spice book existed if it wasn't for PB 😂
I just got back into reading more actively last year and before that I wasn't in much bookish spaces other than bookstores/libraries and IG reels. I had storygraph which I'd just review books but never had goodreads. I have found so many cool and interesting books here on PB, either through Quests, Lists, or people I follow. And I really think PB helped me become a more active reader. And also introduced me to so many genres I would've normally not have tried.
So I'm really curious on where you found books before PB, or where you still find books in addition to PB? And/or if PB has also helped you expand the amount of books you find.

I’m encouraging you this morning to be bold and take up space. Maybe that’s hard in real life so feel free to use this as a place to make space for yourself and shout what you maybe can’t about in person.
I can go first! 📢 Homeowners Associations (HOAs) suck and absolutely do not need to micromanage every little thing. I wish I could go tell mine this!!

Asexuality? In My Fiction?
Ace spectrum representation in fiction! We've got a little of everything - aroace, grayace, demi...my main condition for this list is that the ace character has to explicitly be asexual.
Recommendations welcome!

Asexual Spectrum Non-fiction
Non-fiction books on the subject of asexuality - Baby Ace didn't even realize asexuality was a thing, and several of these books completely changed my world. If you're questioning your asexuality, or just curious about the topic, these are good places to start.
(Disclaimer: I haven't read ALL of these, but have gathered some of them from various asexual lists floating around. If you have any suggestions, don't hesitate to recommend! 😊)

Personally, the perfect audiobook speed for me is 1.5x but when I’m really in the zone I like to go to 2x. My husband’s is a strict 1x and I have a coworker who only listens to her audiobooks on 2x speed! I was just curious to see what other people’s perfect audiobook speeds are!
