Will they??? Won't they??? I thought the plot twist at the end of book 2 was pleasantly unexpected. The entirety of book 3 I've felt this push + pull between Evie + Tristan and I'm still wondering how the end of this will play out. I just saw that the next book cover was released and now I'm scared there won't be a HEA 😱

"It got dark so early now, so easily, so quickly. The town just fell into dark now, tumbled headfirst and shut its eyes." As someone who lives in an area with seasons, I love the way the author describes the quick descent of night in autumn

Im an absolute sucker for a good opening / prologue. You know from the beginning one scene of this character's journey, its more a matter of how we (the audience) get there, and how our MC figures out their next steps. Warning: heavy drug use + addiction

Love the unreliable narrator. Shirley Jackson shows the true horror of humanity. If youre looking for gore, jumpscares, or clowns, this is not for you. If youre looking for absurdity, prose, and questioning the every character, look no further than Jackson.

I read this for a book club. It was a solid story and ended well with closure. They never say the "defendant's " name - so if you dont know the real-life case you may not put all the pieces together.

While reading I was reminded of one of my favourite parts of the first book. Lovely flashback. I’m really enjoying this one as well, although I think I might prefer reading it to listening - but I don’t own it and borrowed it from libby so - I’m listening ☺️ the narrator is quite good as well.

"Im the hawk the sparrows swarm." Marshall has entered this small town (and their church) as an outsider and this line encapsulates that idea very well. There's a sense of unease + foreboding and the author makes that known from the start.
