i couldn’t take it anymore. the characters were so flat and boring. no real relationship development besides them wanting to bone each other. the plot was interesting but the execution was extremely lacking. the “not a teenie weenie, pretty girl is it?” line was the last straw for me. cringe.

Hey guys!! So I really want to try dark romance and I picked Haunting Adeline series and Jesus Christ what the hell, Ive never been more scared of a book, and mind you I read "It ends with us" too and i survived it somehow
It was later then I found out that although this series is called dark romance, many people that read dark romance dont consider it a part of the genre
So my main question is what are some dark romance books that dont have SA in them and that are actually good to read?

We had this discussion in class today, but I wanted to hear more opinions. How do you feel about ghostwriters? Is it acceptable to use a ghostwriter?
I feel like it’s so accepted in nonfiction, but what if it came out that one of your favorite authors had a ghostwriter or a team of ghostwriters? How would you feel?

Sometimes I scroll a book site and see a new book coming out, and then I read the author's name and realize I read one of their previous books and hated it. But the new book sounds like it has a really interesting premise. Then I enter a dilemma of whether or not to read the new book even though I disliked their old work.
When are you willing (or not willing) to give an author a second chance? Is your decision at all influenced by the author writing in a new genre or a different age category?

(I searched if anyone has posted something like this, so forgive me if it’s been discussed.)
How do y’all feel about mean reviews?? Personally, I think it’s unnecessary to bash a book/author if it didn’t suit your personal tastes. Like, you can say you didn’t like something without being an a-hole.
Edit: I’d like to clarify I don’t mean negative reviews, I think those are absolutely necessary. What I mean is saying stuff like “you’re stupid if you liked this” or “how did anyone enjoy this” because I think insulting other readers doesn’t foster the judgement free zone we want these apps to have.

while reading, do you associate any songs with the characters/story/scenes? if so, list some of your favorite ones below!!
i have read a lot of books that include a playlist in the beginning that is supposed to be a vibe for the story/characters, and i was curious if people like those, if they actually listen, and if you as a reader come up with your own associations as you read?!
i can sometimes listen to a song and get little vibes/glimpses that i think i could turn into a character but i don't know if ive ever listened to a song and said "this is definitely giving so-n-so from x book"

I learnt from an author on Instagram the actual difference between why choose & reverse harem
WC: All members ( 2 or more) are ALL connected . Swords cross and everything
RH: 1 woman, 2 men or more just connect with the woman, no swords

I’m currently reading Alchemised, if you didn’t know, it’s a book that was a fanfic revolving around the Harry Potter characters and The Handsmaids Tale , and I have seen discourse online about how it’s inmoral to read this book because in the end it gives JK Rowling attention and more fame.
My questions are:
Is it wrong to support authors that publish fanfiction, if the fanfic was originated from an author of problematic works? (Like JK)
Is it alright to publish fanfiction or do you believe the author of the original material, the world it was based in, should get copyrights and some recognition because fundamentally the story was based on their characters and work?
Do you have some controversial opinion on the matter?

I'd apsolutely love to improve my German even more and through books would be an ideal way to do it! Looking for any genre, but it has to be clean and no spice. Romance isn't my favourite genre either. Any recs?

We don’t have the ability to really understand how much money even $1B is. I think that almost all “billionaire” romances are really “extremely rich guy romances.”
Even though the non-mega-wealthy authors have good imaginations, it’s beyond the grasp of ordinary people (me and presumably everybody reading this) just how much money that is, and how it changes thought processes.
The book I’m reading, the billionaire just thought about how a restaurant is really expensive. But I don’t think a real billionaire would do that.
I once read a billionaire romance where the couple met on a commercial airline flight.
Other billionaire romances have MMCs living rather modestly, maybe a really nice 5-bedroom house.
Then why are you still a billionaire?!
If you’re happily wealthy but not needing much and continuing to work to earn money … why haven’t you given away lots of money to charity to be a “mere” hundred millionaire?
How is a nice, modest, non-ostentatious guy sitting on money just resting in the bank (or stocks) like Scrooge McDuck?

When I was a kid I brought a book to a party once and some lady was like "who reads at a party?" She meant it as a joke but little kid me was definitely feeling her first "shut up, bitch" moment. I'm petty and I still hold a grudge against her to this very day. 😂😂 And now I'm one of those "my ereader is my child" people. LOL

Genuine question: why are we calling sapphic and achilleas romances yoai and yuri??? (I think that’s how you spell it). I have no idea if there’s a difference between the terms. Right now it just feels like another term to avoid the words sapphic and achillean, especially achillean, like ff and mm. I might be totally off base here though, so if anyone knows why these terms are suddenly being used, please tell me
