The Left Hand of Darkness
Ursula K. Le Guin

Finally started reading something by Le Guin and just by reading her foreword from 1976 to this book I already understand why people admire her writing. She makes her points on sci-fi so clear here and with so much strength.
We'll see if the rest of the book lives up to the hype. For now, I highlighted this paragraph of the foreword. It really spoke to me after finishing Sputnik Sweetheart just yesterday:
"In reading a novel, any novel, we have to know perfectly well that the whole thing is nonsense, and then, while reading, believe every word of it. Finally, when weâre done with it, we may findâif itâs a good novelâthat weâre a bit different from what we were before we read it, that we have been changed a little, as if by having met a new face, crossed a street we never crossed before. But itâs very hard to say just what we learned, how we were changed."

i'm really proud of myself so far!! i was hoping to get through 24 books this year, and i'm already at 18 and counting!! i also made it a goal of mine to read an entire trilogy, and i've almost done that too :))
are you on track with your reading goals? do you have reading goals other than reading a certain amount? pla brag a lil in the comments, you deserve congratulations!!
and of course if you haven't been able to keep up with them, that's so fair too! sometimes setting a goal can make it feel intimidating or like a chore, as long as you're having fun that's all that matters! â€ïž

hi everyone! i'm going thru lots of changes and preparing for a new chapter in my life, all very good things but its a lot to process. i would love some book recs that explore these themes, and also include qtbipoc characters. they can be nonfiction or fiction. thank you frens :)
the feeling i feel right now is like coming home but home is filled with bittersweet memories that i still can't believe i made it thru, and i'm so grateful to be home but grieving the versions of me that didn't make it here, the other timelines. does anyone relate to that?
-main request: kinda going for bittersweet vibes, grief, aging/growing up, coming of age, some magical realism perhaps -any genre (except high fantasy or romance-centered books) -mg, ya, adult all ok! -similar to: the curse of eelgrass bog, and every morning the way home gets longer and longer -graphic novels and comics welcome -preferably something soothing or comforting, and also prefer audiobooks rn but welcome any format!
