this was the first audiobook i've listened to in a while, as i'm just emerging from a reading slump, and i think listening to jenny slate's voice for four hours was enough to feel reinvigorated no matter how good the book was. fortunately for me, i also found the actual words to be delightful and odd and emotional and silly and deep. this book is full of a love for life in all its weirdness, and each word paints a beautiful and whimsical picture. though at times things felt a little confusing or repetitive, i found a lot of joy in jenny slate's musings. my heart was tugged at. i blew gusts of laughter out of my nostrils. this book was just a marvelous time and i hope to reread it soon.

I don't feel the pull between Jade and Florence, author. Your story is much more interesting than the relationship 🤣

since i started reading this poetry collection by the incredible mary oliver, i have been seeing overwhelming beauty in such small things. i feel like half my thoughts are in poems. it's lovely how language can connect us so deeply to life, nature, animals, and each other.

I don’t read straight romance very often, but I’m glad I picked this one up. Tia Williams has a fun and lovable writing style that is so easy to get into. I often found myself laughing or gasping out loud as I read. I thought the switching of the characters’ point of views was interesting, especially how it would sometimes switch to that of a character who wasn’t the main character or love interest. Sometimes this took me out a bit, but it wasn’t detrimental to the reading experience. There were points that felt a bit rushed, unrealistic, or under-explained. Sometimes the romance made me feel like I do when a couple makes out passionately in public spaces. The erotic scenes were steamy, but ended quickly. I didn’t like Cece. That miscommunication they had was a bit stupid. These disjointed criticisms are true to me, but are also mostly based on personal preference. My favorite aspects of this book were the disability representation in our protagonist Eva, the little sillies and jokes sprinkled throughout the writing, the whole “authors writing to/about each other through their books” thing, and the distinct voices of each character. I had so much fun with this book. I liked reading it a lot.

  • funny/witty book recommendations?

I'm looking for recommendations of books that are funny, witty, or have a unique and clever writing style. I'm especially looking for adult fiction (though memoirs and etc. are good too), and specifically books with female protagonists and/or non-white leads. They don't have to be Comedy books either, just ones that are entertaining and put you in a reading flow state :-)

  • What’s your current read?

So, I’ve been sick for the past few days, I haven’t started a new book because I don’t feel like it, sickness. So… I was wondering… What are you guys reading? What’s your book about? Would you mind to share with me? 🥹

  • Favorite Children Picture Book?

I got a 3yo and a 17mo, and I need some picture book recommendations! We are almost through our personal library of secondhand picture books (read multiple times). We are ready to start borrowing from the library but there are SOOOO many books to choose from there. I need a starting point hahaha.
