Basically, the only things I liked about this book are the protagonist and her relationship with her sister (which is a very very minor part of the book). Some social commentary could be good and more, but it pretty much peaked at the idea who can traverse and why. Fair warning for those who come expecting a solid sci-fi: the technology in this book doesn't stand the barest scrutiny. Why things work like they do is never explained and amounts to "it just works". The more you start to think about it, the less sense it makes. World building is also very basic and not explored in any way. It feels like a generic backdrop of "big rich techno city bad" and "mad max desert". Fair warning for those who come expecting sapphic romance: there are sapphic characters, but the cover is very misleading. MC periodically says she's in love, flirting, etc, and it feels like the author remembered the book supposed to have a sapphic romance so here's a reminder that MC is, in fact, in love with a woman. They BARELY interact. Only closer to the end I could believe there was a mutual attraction.

I think my expectations for this book were too high, because I've seen it rated highly and recommended. For me though it's okay, it has some interesting ideas and passages, but overall it's not anything deep or engaging. I'm mostly continuing to see if the second half changes anything. (It's just my personal impression don't come at me😭)
