    Well

    I think I’ve discovered a problem.

"Nightshade" was my first dark romance, and I was SO nervous going into it because this is not usually my thing. I don’t typically gravitate toward darker romances, and I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the content going in.

Apparently, I had nothing to worry about.

    Because I loved this book.

It completely lived up to the hype.

Ophelia and Alex obviously stole my heart, but I was genuinely surprised by how much I loved the supporting cast, too. Vin, Belladonna, and Colette were particular standouts for me. I love when a romance gives its side characters enough personality that I actually care about what happens to them instead of viewing them as obstacles between me and the main couple.

    And then there’s Alex.

    Oh my GOD.

    This man was DOWN BAD.

    Pathetic.

    Embarrassing.

    Absolutely gone for Ophelia.

And I loved every second of it.

    That’s a MAN!

I will never get tired of a fictional man being completely and utterly obsessed with the woman he loves. The yearning, the desperation, the devotion
give it to me. Alex would crawl through broken glass for this woman and honestly? Good for him.

    Also

    Thigh riding is SO underrated.

    God bless you, Autumn Woods.

I genuinely appreciate when a romance gives me something a little different, and this book certainly did not hold back.

The stalker mystery was another aspect I really enjoyed. I was able to figure out who the stalker was relatively early, so the reveal itself wasn’t exactly shocking to me, but that didn’t make the mystery any less entertaining. I was still invested in watching everything unfold and seeing how the characters would react once the truth came out.

    And then

    THAT ENDING.

    OH MY GOD.

I wanted to throw myself off of a cliff.

    I am not okay.

I don’t even know how I’m supposed to process what just happened. The second I finished, I immediately knew I needed to pick up book two because there is absolutely no way I’m going to sit here wondering what happens next.

    So, naturally

I’m picking up the second book immediately.

Overall, I went into "Nightshade" expecting to be nervous about whether I’d even enjoy the genre.

Instead, I found myself completely invested in the characters, obsessed with the romance, entertained by the mystery, and emotionally destroyed by the ending.
