This trilogy has been with me for over two decades, since I was a young teen. Every reread brings me something different and special to sit with. My first time reading this trilogy I was ecstatic at the representation. Of the default use of 'she' in a fantasy novel, the gender non-conforming characters, the diversity of race. Previous readings I've really honed in on the magic of the Realm of the Elderlings. The writing of the Wit speaks to my animal lover heart. This time around, I've felt incredibly drawn to the community and found family aspect. We are pack. Despite all their differences, Fitz and his pack continue to support and protect each other. We follow along with Fitz as he learns that he can rely on his community. What surprised me by the end was who I considered to be part of Fitz's pack. An incredible exploration of power dynamics in familial relationships (plus some wolves, dragons, and magic thrown in!).
I just completed my 2026 reading goal of 24 books and made a teary little post on my profile. I wanted to jump on here to a more public space and proudly declare my love and appreciation for Lucy and Jennifer, and all the Boundlings. I love and appreciate you!!!!!! I never thought I would get back to reading as much as I did when I was younger. I honestly just thought that part of me was gone. I've had year long breaks without reading anything. At most I've maybe read 4 books in a year in the last decade. When I joined PB at the start of the year and added my reading challenge, I first set myself 12 books. One a month seemed reasonable to me. Then I decided you know what, let's go for the stars lol. So I doubled it to 24, thinking I would never get anywhere near it but it would be a nice goal to aim for. The fact I've done this in 4 months is mind blowing to me. I've been easy on myself and read a LOT of comfort fantasy, but I also threw in some new reads!
Thank you to everyone who contributes to this community, you are literally helping to save my life. Reading your posts and thoughts has helped me find myself again β€οΈ

FYI for non USA residents - I live in australia and signed up for Quatrefoil! It did take a couple of months but it went through :) I just popped in N/A for address
